Everything you need to know about RentMatch — for tenants and estate agents.
Yes, completely. Creating a verified tenant profile on RentMatch costs nothing. There are no subscription fees, no hidden charges, and no credit card required. RentMatch is free for tenants — always.
No. RentMatch does not run a credit check. We verify your identity, income, and bank statements — the documents that actually show landlords you're a reliable tenant. Landlords may choose to run their own checks separately, but RentMatch's verification process does not include one.
Most profiles are verified within 24 hours of submitting your documents. Once verified, your profile goes live on the tenant directory and landlords can start finding you.
To complete verification you'll need: a South African ID document (or passport if you're a foreign national), your latest 3 months of payslips, and your latest 3 months of bank statements. All documents should be clear, recent, and in PDF format where possible.
Yes. If you're self-employed or freelance, you can substitute payslips with 6 months of bank statements showing consistent income, along with a letter from your accountant if available. RentMatch supports non-traditional income structures.
Your verification score is a summary signal generated from your submitted documents. It tells landlords and estate agents at a glance how complete and trustworthy your profile is — without them having to manually review every document. A higher score reflects a more complete, consistent profile.
Your profile is visible to registered landlords and estate agents on the RentMatch platform. Your documents are stored securely and only shared with parties you explicitly connect with. We do not sell or distribute your data.
No rental history is fine — especially for first-time renters. Your income, employment stability, and document completeness carry the most weight. You can also include an employment reference in place of a landlord reference.
RentMatch is available nationwide across South Africa. Estate agents and landlords in all major cities — including Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria, and Port Elizabeth — use the platform.
Estate agents register on RentMatch and gain access to a searchable directory of pre-verified tenants. Each profile includes verified documents, a verification score, and income details — everything needed to shortlist candidates quickly.
Estate agents purchase tokens to unlock full tenant profiles. Browsing the directory and viewing basic profile summaries is free — you only use a token when you want to access full contact details and documents for a specific tenant.
Tenant documents are reviewed by RentMatch before a profile is marked as verified. We check for document validity, consistency across documents, and completeness. Only profiles that pass this review receive a verified status and appear in the directory.
Yes. Once you unlock a tenant's full profile using a token, their contact details become available and you can reach out directly.
